A dog described as “friendly” attacked an alpaca on a farm that ended up needing stitches.
Wiltshire Police have shared that officers were called to a “dog attack” on an alpaca on a farm near Trowbridge.
The alpaca required stitches and a picture of the animal shows it post-surgery, with its leg shaven and disinfected.
After the attack, which happened nearly two months ago on September 13, officers visited the dog and its owner and found the dog to be “very friendly”.
A community resolution was agreed on by all parties of a responsible dog ownership course.

Responsible dog owners courses are aimed at low-level, first-time offenders and aim to empower the dog owner through education, as opposed to punishment.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “After visiting the dog and the owner, and seeing that the dog was very friendly, a community resolution of a responsible dog ownership course was implemented and agreed amongst all parties.
“It is important to ensure dogs are always kept on a lead around livestock as no matter how friendly they are, it can be in their nature to chase.
“Even if 100% sure your dog won't attack, even the stress of being chased with dogs running around them can cause pregnant livestock to miscarry.”
