A new pop-up shop has opened in Wiltshire, hoping to provide Christmas bargains and raise vital funds.

The Bath Cancer Support Group charity shop opened in The Shires shopping centre in Trowbridge on Thursday, November 21, and is currently accepting as many donations as possible.

According to vice chair of the charity's trustees, Sue Oliver, the pop-up charity shop has seen great success in the past, and has always had the support of Trowbridge shoppers and The Shires.

"We try and do a pop-up shop once every year and The Shires are very supportive and they consider us for any vacancy," said Sue.

"We find that people use us a lot in the lead up to Christmas as you can pick up some real bargains."

Not only is the pop-up shop helping residents do their Christmas shopping on a budget, but it will also raise vital funds to support the cancer facilities at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

Approximately 95 per cent of all money raised goes straight into equipment and resources for the cancer unit (with the other five per cent spent on administrative costs), and over the past 33 years, £5 million has been raised by volunteers.

"We’re currently supporting a paediatric nursing associate, and we have a couple of appeals coming up for 2025 as well," added Sue.

"All our money goes into the cancer unit, but we’ll be specifically supporting Scalp Coolers, which help reduce hair loss for patients undergoing chemotherapy, and Airgloves to improve access to veins during cannulation, and several other projects.

"If anyone has any goods they want to donate, we’re happy to take them and actively encourage as many donations as possible.

"To anyone thinking about coming in, I’d say just come and have a look. We’re lovely to chat to and we’re very meet and greet type-people."

The pop-up charity shop will remain open every day except Sundays until mid-January 2025, and volunteers are hoping it will be as successful as ever this year.

Money raised will support patients in Bath, North and West Wiltshire, North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
