A second Wiltshire A-road has been closed by police this afternoon after live electrical wires fell across it.

The A36 has been closed at Black Dog Hill near Warminster and Westbury, shortly after the A350 closed at Chippenham due to flooding.

A Wiltshire Police statement said: “Drivers please be aware that the A36 is currently closed at Black Dog Hill due to live electrical wires across the road.

“Please avoid the area and find alternate routes.”

Councils and police are aware of a large number of reports about fallen objects, with Wiltshire Police saying it is “extremely busy”.

The police force warned: “We are currently receiving a high number of calls related to the weather such as fallen trees or debris in the road.

“As a result, our control room is extremely busy, and so we would ask people to please only call 999 in an emergency.

“To report fallen trees or branches, or any obstructions in the road, you can contact your local authority or Highways.

“Please only travel when necessary. Be careful on the roads and adjust speeds and braking distances accordingly.”

The A350 remains closed in both directions while police await a tanker to clear flood water.
