A learner driver who claimed to be on their way to a lesson has been caught by police without a valid licence or insurance.

The Peugeot driver, who only has a provisional licence, was pulled over by police officers on Wednesday.

Checks revealed they were breaking the law by driving the vehicle without insurance and driving unsupervised on a provisional licence.

However, they claimed they were on their way to meet their driving instructor for a lesson before being stopped by police officers.

Wiltshire Specialist Operations said: “Vehicle stopped, driver found to be uninsured with just a provisional driving license. The driver was travelling to meet with a driving instructor for a lesson, at the time of stop!!”

A learner driver who gets behind the wheel without the correct supervision may face a fine of up to £1,000 and up to six penalty points on their provisional licence.
