Police have stopped two drivers for allegedly recording a crash scene on their phones while driving.

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) reportedly caught two drivers using their phones while driving after responding to an earlier crash in the Melksham area.

The offenders were allegedly spotted trying to record the scene as they drove past.

Both were reported for their actions.

A spokesperson for the force added: “Whilst RPU has been waiting at the scene of a collision in Melksham, we have seen two drivers record the scene on their phones.

“This is the second driver to be reported. Unfortunately for this driver, they only passed their test this year. Is it really worth it?”

Using a mobile phone while driving is one of the “fatal five” offences that can increased the likelihood of crashes.

Wiltshire Police will regularly patrol the county to crack down on drivers committing these offences, which also include dangerous or careless driving, not wearing a seatbelt, drink or drug driving, and speeding.
