A community has rallied around the owners of a popular takeaway that “lost everything” after a fire.

The Kebab and Pizza House on Northgate Street, Devizes, was hit by a “devastating” fire that ripped through the property during the early hours of Tuesday, November 12.

The building has been severely damaged in the incident and the fire service evacuated neighbouring properties, although nobody is believed to have been injured.

Firefighters battled the inferno for hours and the busy road into the town centre remained closed throughout much of the day, with people urged to avoid the area.

A GoFundMe started by Kayleigh Sainsbury has urged the Devizes community to offer support to the owners of the popular takeaway who have been hit hard by the incident.

Within hours of the fundraiser being set up, it had raised nearly £2,000.

“They’ve lost everything they own in this world including all vital documentation they need and unfortunately costs to replace.

“Hamza and the three guys who work alongside him are so lovely and are loved by many.

“Now homeless and out of work we’re hoping as a community we can help them in any way we can even if it’s to cover the costs of expenses of documentation.”

Anyone willing to donate clothes or other items to help those affected has been advised to visit Costa Coffee’s branch in the Market Place.

Speaking via the fundraising page, Ms Sainsbury added: “I will be in Costa Coffee in the Market Place over the next few days if anyone has clothes or wants to donate, please feel free to drop in to me I can get this to the guys.

“Thank you for your time, generosity and kindness.”

The fire service sent multiple crews to tackle the blaze on Tuesday morning, including an aerial ladder platform from Swindon and a support appliance from Salisbury.

At the time of writing, the cause of the fire was unknown, and the fire service confirmed there would be an investigation “in due course.”

Cllr Iain Wallis told residents Wiltshire Council was making a phone line available for those who needed assistance after being evacuated.
