A major £450,000 renovation to a Wiltshire town’s architectural “hidden gem” has started ramping up.
Road closures were put in place surrounding Devizes Town Hall on Monday, October 21, ahead of a project to repair the Grade II listed building’s “deteriorating” roof.
Since then, scaffolding has been erected at the prominent town centre building, which hosts Devizes Town Council meetings, as work ramps up to fix the ongoing issues.
The project is expected to cost around £450,000 and is due to be completed within 20 weeks.

During this time, St John’s Street will remain closed between the road’s two junctions with the A360 through the town.
Devizes Town Council revealed the building needed repairs after a survey by Dolmans found significant issues.
At the time, town clerk Simon Fisher said: “Those who have visited the town hall over the last few years may have noticed the level of water ingress during bad weather that has been a problem for us and whilst we have undertaken remedial work to try and stop the water coming in, it has been a losing battle.
“Therefore, the only way to deal with the problem properly is to carry out more substantial work which over the last few years we have started to budget to pay for.”
