A Wiltshire bar has opened with a “bang” after renovating a former town centre micropub.

The Pour House opened for the first time in Devizes, at the former Vaults unit on St Johns Street, on Friday, November 1.

Owner Sarah Watts and manager Tony Lockyear had planned for the bar’s first weekend in business to be a “soft opening” ahead of a full launch at the end of the month.

But the pair were blown away by the early popularity of the venue.

Ms Watts said: “We opened at noon and had our first customer in at 12.01pm.

“It was an amazing start and an incredible weekend, we were blown away by the support from everyone who came in.

“Friday and Saturday exceeded all our expectations, and we even had returning customers on the Saturday and the Sunday which was brilliant.

“The atmosphere was phenomenal, it was meant to be a soft launch but it just went bang.”

As well as promising the “widest selection of craft beers in town”, the team behind The Pour House is hoping to create an “inclusive space” for customers.

Ms Watts added: “We are so excited about this opportunity because we want it to be a safe, inclusive space regardless of who you are and how many people you're with.

“It seems like people have embraced this community feeling and we’ve been welcomed with open arms by the other local businesses and residents.

“The response has been so humbling and so exciting, the team and I are just a group of your friends that you haven’t met yet.”

Following the initial opening, Ms Watts and Mr Lockyear are currently taking feedback from customers and will be making some changes to help perfect the venue.

Ms Watts added: “It was all about getting people in and seeing if it works, there will be a few tweaks but nothing major.

“We will act on people’s feedback because we want it to be the space that people want it to be.

“We want people to know how grateful we are for their support and feedback so far.”

The planned alterations include the addition of “paw houses” to make customers’ dogs comfortable when visiting while the business will also be placing an emphasis on men’s mental health.
