A fire which broke out in Wiltshire has closed one High Street for over 24 hours, as investigations continue.

The fire at an 18th century, grade II listed property in Codford, near Warminster, first broke out at approximately 10.40pm on Thursday, October 31, and firefighters from Warminster, Wilton, Westbury, Salisbury and Amesbury all attended the scene.

Police closed off the High Street while the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service tackled the blaze, but more than 24 hours on, the street has yet to fully reopen as investigations are carried out.

“When firefighters arrived, firefighters found a house fully involved in fire," said a spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service.

“At the height of this incident, we had seven fire engines, a water carrier and the aerial ladder platform from Yeovil (Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue) on the scene.

“Crews wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reels and three main jets to bring the fire under control.

“Firefighters remain at the scene of this incident and are working closely with partners in Wiltshire Council, Wiltshire Police and SSE.

“A joint fire investigation with Wiltshire Police has begun.”

At the height of the incident, around 35 firefighters attended.

The property is believed to have been empty at the time, and no casualties were involved.

Fire crews from Wilton described the incident as a "large domestic property fire" and say they "found the roof of the Georgian Manor House well alight."

The crew remained at the scene to tackle the blaze until 3.15am on Friday morning.

Wiltshire Police confirmed the High Street closure as of Friday morning, November 1, and told residents they would "provide an update when it reopened".

However, no update has yet been issues and traffic monitors are continuing to report that the road is partially closed.

Traffic continues to be slow around Broadleaze and the westbound lane from the A36 towards Broadleaze continues to be closed.
