A BMW has been seized by police at a motorway service station after early morning patrols caught one driver doing 130mph.
Officers from Wiltshire Police's specialist operations team were out patrolling the M4 in Wiltshire in the early hours of Saturday, November 2, when they spotted a car travelling at 130mph.
This is almost twice the legal speed limit of 70mph for a car on the motorway.
Police pursued the white BMW and were able to stop the driver at a service station in Wiltshire just before 7am.
After completing inspections, officers also discovered that the driver of the car was not insured to drive it.
The BMW was seized by police, who have reminded residents of the dangers of the 'fatal five' offences.
These are speeding, drink and drug driving, using a phone while driving, not wearing a seatbelt, and careless or dangerous driving.
In 2023, the M4 was listed as one of Wiltshire's hotspots for fatal offences, alongside the A303, A338, A360, A3102 and A4.
“A single death on our roads is one too many and it is really important that we don’t look at these numbers as just a statistic," said Chief Superintendent Phil Staynings.
"Each fatality is a person, somebody’s child, a brother or sister, a parent or grandparent."
