Resurfacing works are set to start on a “horrendous” A-road into a Wiltshire town after months of delays.
The Pheasant Roundabout, on the A4 Bath Road in Chippenham, has caused issues for drivers for some time due to the large number of potholes at the junction.
The roundabout and the approach to it are the responsibility of developer Bloor Homes, with the firm due to upgrade the crossing point as part of works associated with a nearby housing development.
But these upgrades have been “significantly delayed” and are now not expected to be completed until early 2025.
This has prompted Wiltshire Council to carry out “urgent” resurfacing at the roundabout because councillors believe the repairs “could not wait any longer.”

A spokesperson said: “We’re resurfacing the Pheasant roundabout in Chippenham over the next few days and are in discussions with Bloor Homes, the developer, to bring forward their work to upgrade lighting and install traffic signal crossings in the area.
“There have been significant delays in the developer completing their work, and it is now due to be completed in early 2025.
“Given these continued delays with the developer’s work, we felt that the resurfacing could not wait any longer and have decided to complete this now.
“We’ll continue to work with the developer to ensure that any further disruption is kept to a minimum and that any future work on the road is reinstated properly to ensure a high standard of road surface.”
The announcement was met with approval from frustrated drivers who have dealt with months of potholes on the route.
In April, Cepen Park South resident John Wright told this paper the road surface was “horrendous.”
He added: “I would describe the road as horrendous. They’ve resurfaced from the Cepen Park South Roundabout but left it short of The Pheasant Roundabout.
“As you approach the roundabout there’s a strip of around 10 or 15 feet that is all covered in potholes.
“It’s not good enough because it’s a main road and it’s taking even more traffic through the area every day.”
Temporary traffic lights are set to be installed at The Pheasant Roundabout on Monday, November 4, and will be in place between 7pm and 6am until Saturday, November 9.
During this time the carriageway will be resurfaced.
Nighttime road closures will also be in place between The Pheasant and the junction with Patterdown Road until the same date.
