First Bus has warned passengers of “severe disruption” to services because of road closures and roadworks in Trowbridge.
The company says the closures and works are causing “severe delays” to its D1 and D1X services between Bath and Trowbridge.
In a notice posted at the Bath bus station, First Bus said: “Road works are currently taking place at Trowbridge causing severe delays.
“Please allow extra time for your journey and expect severe disruption whilst these works are ongoing.
“Listen out for information announcements and cancellations. Buses may depart from different bays.
“We apologise for any inconvenience.”
The Bristol-based bus operator also posted a message on its website warning passengers about the road closures and road works in Trowbridge.
The message said: “From 9am Saturday the 26th of October, emergency gas works near the railway bridge at Stallard St in Trowbridge will mean buses will have to divert to use Newtown, Mortimer Street and County Way.
“Due to the nature of the works, it means this is a continual closure that is anticipated to last for up to five days.
“Regrettably Town Bridge, Sainsbury’s, Bythesea Road and Trinity Church stop will not be served during the closure.
“For more information, please contact our Customer Services Department
“Telephone: 0345 646 0707 (Calls cost 12p per minute plus network charges).”
The road closures have severely affected traffic using Stallard Street, which has been closed until Thursday, October 31 to allow Wales & West Utilities to find and fix a gas leak.
Traffic has been diverted into Newtown, Mortimer Street and County Way but has caused congestion and delays for drivers using the A366 Wingfield Road and the A363 Bradford Road.
It has also affected through traffic trying to get to the A363 Bradley Road, the A361 Frome Road, and the A350 at Yarnbrook.
The West Ashton Road will also be closed from Wednesday, October 29 to Friday, November 1 for works between Leap Gate and the West Ashton crossroads.
Road works on the A363 Bradford Road near the Enterprise Car & Van Hire Centre until Friday, November 8 have also caused delays.
The works and closures are on top of the three-month closure of Manvers Street, which has affected drivers trying to gain access to Trowbridge town centre. These works are due to end in mid-November.
Wiltshire Council has been contacted for a comment about the delays but has not yet responded.
