Improvements to the fitness suite and pool changing rooms at Marlborough Leisure Centre will begin at the start of next month.

The renovations, which aim to extend the fitness suite and overhaul the wet changing facilities, will begin on Monday, November 4.

The project will include the installation of a changing places facility and is expected to be completed by spring 2025.

While the centre will stay open during the refurbishments, visitors are being made aware of some disruptions.

Contractors will be on-site from the end of October, which will reduce the number of car park spaces available.

Soft play sessions will not take place from Saturday, November 2.

The swimming pool will be closed between 8am and 3.30pm on Wednesday, November 6, and Thursday, November 7, to allow for the installation of temporary changing units poolside.

Despite this, swimming lessons will take place as usual.

After these dates, the pool is expected to remain open for the duration of the works, with swimming lessons continuing as normal.

However, the pool changing rooms will be unavailable from Monday, November 11, and there will be no shower facilities in the pool area.

Swimmers are encouraged to attend their sessions "swim ready".

The squash court will be closed from Sunday, November 10, and the gym will shut from Monday, November 18, to Tuesday, November 19, to allow for equipment to be moved into the small hall for a temporary gym provision.

The temporary gym will remain in place for the duration of the fitness suite works, but this may affect some fitness classes usually held in the small hall.

Councillor Ian Blair-Pilling, Wiltshire Council's cabinet member for leisure, said: "We are working to improve our leisure facilities across Wiltshire, and with similar projects already complete in Chippenham, Royal Wootton Bassett, and Salisbury, we are excited for this next scheme at Marlborough Leisure Centre to get started.

"We want to motivate people in Wiltshire to keep physically, socially, and mentally active.

"By extending the fitness suite, adding family and group changing rooms in the wet changing rooms, and installing the new changing places facility, more people will have the opportunity to visit a more accessible, modern, and fit-for-purpose centre."

He added: "We know it is a bit inconvenient being asked to arrive ‘swim-ready’ for sessions, so we also thank the customers in advance for their patience and flexibility with the inevitable disruption whilst the works are taking place."
