NETWORK Rail has apologised in advance for “unavoidable” noise ahead of planned overnight maintenance works on the line in Salisbury.
The infrastructure manager will carry out railway track improvement work between Laverstock and Fugglestone Saint Peter in early-November.
The work will begin at around 11.30pm on Saturday, November 2 and will be completed by 10am on Sunday, November 3. Workers will use on-track machinery and powered and manual tools, plus bright lights to ensure worker safety.
In a letter sent to residents living near the railway, including on Fisherton Street, the community relations department at Network Rail said: “I'm writing to let you know that Network Rail needs to carry out essential work near your property.
“Work will be carried out overnight from approximately 11.30pm on Saturday, November 2 to 10am on Sunday, November 3.
“Our team will be carrying out general track maintenance and will be using on-track machinery and smaller equipment, including powered and manual hand tools.
“There will also be bright lighting in place for safety work as we work during the hours of darkness.
“The equipment we use means some noise is unavoidable, and we sincerely apologise for this in advance. Furthermore, staff working on site are briefed on working responsibly in the local community.
“We expect staff to be considerate, polite and courteous at all times.”
The Salisbury Journal has contacted Network Rail for more information.
