New Wiltshire charity shop opening soon in old Clarks store

The former Clarks shoe store at The Brittox in Devizes closed in early March to the disappointment of shoppers and has since remained empty.

But now work is ongoing inside the unit and signs have been posted in the shopfront indicating that it will become an Age UK charity store.

While an exact date has not been confirmed, the charity has promised the shop will open “soon” and it is seeking both volunteers and donations to get the venture off the ground.

The former Clarks store in Devizes (Image: Newsquest) Age UK is the country’s charity providing support for the elderly and has shops in Bradford on Avon, Marlborough, and Salisbury.

In a statement on the charity’s website, it said: “In our charity shops you can buy or donate preloved clothes, books, homeware and other items. 

“Our dedicated charity shop volunteers kindly assist us with the day-to-day running of our store and the money raised helps further our mission to support older people in the local community. 

“As well as retail spaces, our shops also act as an invaluable information point in the community with leaflets in store promoting a wide range of information, products, and services available to older people and their families.”
