A new grocery store is opening in an empty former cake shop on the outskirts of a town centre in Wiltshire.
The former Rubydoocakes shop on New Road in Chippenham has been vacant since the independent bakery closed its doors in January.
Now the unit is getting a new lease of life, after renovations started inside the shop several days ago.
Signs in the window promise that a halal meat and grocery shop is “opening soon.”

At the time of writing, the store was yet to open and no opening date for the venue had been confirmed.
Halal food is that which adheres to Islamic law, as defined in the Koran, and means the meat will be suitable for the town’s Muslim population.
The new store will open next to a mini market that replaced the former Digiprint Nettl studio, with occupants now found for both units that were left empty in quick succession at the start of 2024.
Rubydoocakes had been popular with residents but lasted less than a year after relocating to its New Road location in March 2023.
