It has been one year since firefighter Mark Hillier, described by his family as brave and selfless, died while responding to an emergency call.
Mark was 47 when travelling to Pewsey Fire Station while on duty on October 12, 2023, and his car collided with another around 6.45pm on the A345.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service have remembered the father, husband, watch manager and firefighter since 1995 in a public statement.
Family's tribute to firefighter killed in crash who 'saved countless lives'
The service spokesperson said: “Today we remember Watch Manager Mark Hillier who sadly passed away one year ago. Our thoughts are with all of Mark’s family, friends and colleagues today.”
Mark’s wife heard his beeper going off while he was at his friends with his dogs.
He died of severe head injuries following the crash in which inquest found he was not wearing a seatbelt. His three dogs also passed away.
His wife, Holly, previously said: “We will be forever proud of you, as we knew you were of us. Your bravery, selflessness and countless lives saved will be remembered always.
“You will be forever celebrated and cherished. Mark, Dad, we love you wholeheartedly with everything we have. We miss you immensely. Until we meet again. Love you forever and always.”
