A Porsche driver has been fined thousands of pounds for careless driving after being caught on dashcam footage speeding through a red light.

David Mayne, 46, of Upper Seagry in Chippenham, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention near the A4 through Corsham at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 7.

Mayne was caught on dashcam footage overtaking a car in his Porsche Cayman and speeding through a red light at the junction of Bath Road and Cross Keys Road just after 7pm on September 7, 2023.

SGT Bott, from Wiltshire’s Roads Policing Unit, said: “This offender was brought to justice thanks to a quick-thinking off-duty officer who sent us a video clip of Mayne’s careless driving.

“If you capture someone driving in a manner that puts other road users at risk, we will inform the registered keeper of our intention to prosecute the driver and work with the Crown Prosecution Service to convict them.

“This notice must be served within 14 days of the offence so please do not delay in sending us your footage.

“If you have caught a crime on your dashcam these are the steps you should take: save the clip, export the clip and give it an appropriate name (location, date and time) and upload the clip to our National Dashcam Safety Portal which is hosted by Nextbase.”

Mayne was ordered to pay a total of £2,185 in fines and court costs and issued six penalty points.
