A historic funfair is set to take over a high street in Wiltshire for the second time in two weekends.

The Marlborough Big Mop is due to kick off on the High Street at midday on Saturday, October 12.

Organised by the Showmen's Guild of Great Britain, the Big Mop fair is described as an “amped up” version of the Little Mop, which took place on Saturday, October 5.

It will offer something for everyone, and is suitable for older attendees, including “daring” fairground rides, fun stalls like hook-a-duck, and food vans.

Signs plastered around the town confirm that entry to the event is free.

Last weekend, the Little Mop, which precedes the Big Mop every year, drew crowds to the town centre as the sun shone on attendees.

After an official opening ceremony, the mayor, Councillor Kym-Marie Cleasby took to the skies in the first ride of the day.

The Marlborough Mop is steeped in decades of history and the events were originally hiring fairs in the 1200s.

This year’s Big Mop will see multiple road closures from midday on Friday, October 11, until 8am on Sunday, October 13.

The routes due to shut are the High Street, part of Kingsbury Road from the High Street to Silverless Street, and New Road.
