Parking crackdown planned for busy Wiltshire car park

Wiltshire Council is running a consultation on a proposal to introduce parking restrictions at The Activity Zone leisure centre in Malmesbury.

If implemented, this Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) would limit drivers to three hours of parking at the site, which currently has no parking restrictions.

Cllr Tamara Reay, cabinet member for transport and assets, says the proposal aims to stop drivers leaving their cars in the busy car park all day, which is currently reducing space for leisure centre users.

The Malmesbury Activity Zone (Image: Google Maps) She said: “Customers using Malmesbury leisure centre have had difficulty using the centre as there are currently no parking restrictions in place and people have been parking all day in the car park, reducing capacity for leisure centre users.

“The TRO seeks to introduce a maximum stay of three hours to prevent all-day parking and ensure customers wanting to use the leisure centre can park.”

A public consultation on the plans will run until Monday, October 21, during which residents can have their say.

The plans can be viewed in full on the Wiltshire Council website or at Malmesbury Library.
