Plans for up to 50 new homes on the outskirts of a Wiltshire village will go to appeal after being rejected.

In February, Wiltshire Council denied Rowde LVA LLP planning permission to build a large development on the outskirts of the village, near Devizes.

The plans for land west of Sand’s Lane would also see the construction of a new community building, car park, and public open space.

The developer has since lodged an appeal that will be decided after written representations from both sides, which must be in by Tuesday, October 8, are considered.

In particular, concerns about potential flooding, the size of the development, and the impact on traffic in the area were highlighted.

Many believe that infrastructure in that part of the village, particularly the rural roads, would not be able to cope with an influx of housing.

But the developers insist the new estate would solve “a significant unmet affordable housing need in the area” and that any adverse consequences of the scheme would be outweighed by the “significant benefits” this would bring.
