Thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected to hit Swindon and Wiltshire over the next few days.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning that is in force until 8pm on Friday and is then followed by a similar warning covering the hours of 1am to 11.59pm on Saturday.

A third weather warning, for rain this time, will be in effect from midnight to 11.59pm on Sunday.

There is an 80 per cent chance of thunderstorms over Swindon between 2pm and 4pm today.

Saturday will see the area stay fairly dry, though the chance of heavy rain increases to between 70 and 90 per cent throughout all of Sunday morning and most of the afternoon before easing off to light drizzle after 6pm.

Temperatures should range from 15 to 22 degrees Celsius on Saturday and 14 to 19C on Sunday.

On Friday, the Met Office released a video showing satellite imagery which tracks the progress of heavy thunderstorms and hail sweeping across some southern counties.

A spokesperson said: "Consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.

"Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.

"Consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items."
