The search for a business to fill the gap left by a closed Wiltshire superstore is ongoing.

Acorn Property Group still hopes to fill the largest unit at the Emery Gate Shopping Centre in Chippenham, which was left empty by the closure of Tesco in August.

The retailer announced its decision to relocate out of the centre and open a smaller Tesco Express store on the High Street earlier this year.

Since it closed the shop, which had been Emery Gate’s biggest store since 2008, work has been ongoing to strip it of its internal fixtures and fittings.

The space now appears largely empty from the outside and shopping centre owner Acorn says Tesco is still in the process of vacating the unit.

While plans have been revealed for the eventual transformation of the shopping centre, Acorn still intends to find a new occupant for the former supermarket, which will be available from the end of September.

“However they are currently in the process of vacating the store and we are actively looking for another occupier or occupiers to take what is a very attractive space in the centre of Chippenham, which will be available from the end of September.”

Acorn says talks are ongoing with multiple parties and it is willing to be flexible in order to find new tenants.

The firm previously said that no major occupiers had shown an interest in taking on the unit.

It was suggested that the space could be split to help fill it with new traders.

Any businesses interested in taking over the former supermarket have been urged to get in touch with Acorn.

“We can be flexible with terms as we would love to fill the space.

A planning application is expected next month seeking consent to partially redevelop the shopping centre, through the transformation of the existing commercial space and the addition of over 200 homes.
