Plans are being considered for the significant refurbishment of a prominent High Street pub and restaurant.
In July, plans were submitted for a renovation at the Grade II listed Castle and Ball on Marlborough High Street, which is also in use as a hotel.
If approved, the proposal would see significant internal alterations and refurbishment to the Greene King operated venue to “revitalise its commercial viability.”
Speaking on behalf of Greene King in a planning statement, a Boyer Planning spokesperson said: “The proposed changes have all been designed to preserve and respect the historic fabric of the existing public house whilst providing much needed updates to create a more inclusive environment for patrons to enjoy and in doing so support the site’s vitality and viability.”

The project would also mean improvements to the accessibility of the building including a new external wheelchair access and dedicated lobby located at the rear of the site.
Access ramps, an accessible toilet, and an accessible guestroom would be created alongside the replacement of the existing bar, the addition of a second one, and a host of other repairs and alterations.
A consultation on the plans has ended with no objections registered, and Wiltshire Council is now considering the application.
It has set a deadline of Tuesday, September 24 by which to issue a decision.
