Police monitored hundreds of drivers travelling through a Wiltshire village while on the lookout for speeding vehicles.

PC Groome, from Wiltshire Police’s Devizes Neighbourhood Team, joined the Worton Community Speed Watch to carry out checks in the village on Tuesday, September 10.

During a 45-minute session of speed checks, over 500 vehicles were clocked travelling at different speeds through the village.

In the time that police were present, all drivers were adhering to the 30mph speed limit.

A spokesperson for the force added: “PC Groome joined the Worton Community Speed Watch this morning to ensure drivers are adhering to the 30mph speed limit.

“Following this, PC Groome made patrols of villages surrounding Devizes which included, Potterne, Bishops Cannings and Lydeway.”

Police are working with community speed watch groups as part of their push to crack down on motoring offences.

Throughout the year, the force has been encouraging drivers to avoid the “fatal five” offences that increase the risk of incidents on the road.
