Wiltshire Police’s Devizes HQ was thoroughly searched following an evacuation before being declared “safe” by officers.

Staff were evacuated from the premises on London Road on the evening of Tuesday, September 10, while emergency services responded to a reported incident.

Shortly after 9pm, following several hours of detailed searches at the building, the estate was declared safe and responding officers were stood down.

Police are yet to confirm the nature of the reported incident that sparked the searches but have emphasised there is “categorically” no link to terrorism.

Superintendent Doug Downing has since confirmed that there were no reported injuries or arrests and added there was no risk to either staff or the public, with the evacuation reportedly a precautionary measure.

He said: “Contrary to some inaccurate media speculation, there is categorically no link to terrorism.

“For further public reassurance - we wish to make clear that at no point was there any risk to staff or members of the public.

"I can also confirm that there were no reported injuries and no arrests have been made.

"We wish to thank the public who may have been inconvenienced, for their patience and understanding."
