Investigations are ongoing after two people were arrested in connection with a crash that killed a Wiltshire teenager.

Toya Jefferies died at the scene of a serious one-vehicle collision on an unnamed road between Bushton and Hilmarton on August 29.

The 16-year-old girl, from Royal Wootton Bassett, had been a rear passenger in the Renault Clio that was involved in the incident.

At the time, police confirmed an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and taken into custody.

Officers have since revealed that a 17-year-old was also arrested.

Both have been released under investigation.

Police carried out extensive enquiries at the scene of the crash, with the road remaining closed for over 12 hours.

Investigating officers have previously appealed for any witnesses, or those who may have dashcam footage, to come forward.

A spokesperson for the force added: “Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who has dashcam footage is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting log 351 of August 29.

“Alternatively, they can contact the team directly at SCIT@wiltshire.police.uk.”

Since the incident, Toya’s parents have paid tribute to her and thanked the community for their support.

Toya’s dad Wayne said: “We need to say how much we've been touched by our family and close friends, plus the whole community.

“You have all been fantastic, we are so lucky to live in Royal Wootton Bassett, we have received flowers, cards, and gifts in remembrance of our baby girl Toya Jefferies.

“We have been touched by the generosity on a GoFundMe page… we can't thank everyone in person but hopefully this can reach out to you all. We love you all.”

Mr Jefferies believes the flood of tributes to his daughter shows the positive impact she had on those around her.

He added: “This is the hardest challenge we as a family have had to deal with and wouldn't wish this on anybody, parents should never have to bury their children first.

“As a parent, all we want is our children to go out into the public and be respectful, which we can see she was as the love we are receiving back from you all.

“We love you all, R.I.P baby girl.”
