The decision date is looming for controversial plans to build a 150-home development beside a Wiltshire A-road.

In June plans were submitted by GTBE LLP to redevelop a 10-hectare piece of land to the north of the A4 Bath Road on the edge of Corsham.

If approved, the major housing scheme would see up to 150 residential dwellings built alongside a 1550sq metre mixed-use hub, and a four-arm roundabout that would link the site to the A4 near the junction with Bradford Road.

But the proposal has been fiercely opposed by many residents who have raised concerns about the impact on traffic and other infrastructure, and the loss of green space.

Now Wiltshire Council’s deadline to approve or reject the development is drawing nearer, with a decision currently expected by Tuesday, September 10 at the latest.

This may be subject to change.

A public consultation on the plans has received 236 comments, many of which are residents or interested groups objecting to the scheme.

Many of these comments claimed a development of this scale would “gridlock” the A4 into Corsham, which is already congested at peak times.

Origin3, the firm acting as an agent for the application, believes its vision for Bath Road would deliver a “flourishing, distinctive, and residential led extension to North Corsham.”
