A play park which closed for three weeks for an upgrade is still closed after delays in reopening.

New Road Play Area is one of seven town parks in Royal Wootton Bassett and is made up of a large playing field and two separate play areas with equipment – one for toddlers and another for children aged over five.

The toddler park closed to the public on August 5 so that a new fence could be installed by the Grounds Team and the park was set to fully reopen on Friday, August 23.

But more than three weeks on, children in the town have been left disappointed as the park is still closed.

The exact reason for this delay has not been given, but Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council has assured the public that the park will reopen soon.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances the work is still ongoing and will be opening a week later than expected on Friday 31st August 2024,” said a spokesperson for the town council.

“We apologise for the inconvenience. The nearest toddler park is at Old Court.”

The play park was last closed for upgrades just six months ago when a new see-saw was installed in the toddler's area.

However, the February closure of the park was set to last for just one day and in the end was delayed for eight days, due to poor weather.
