Residents of a Wiltshire town say they're at their wit's end as eight weeks of roadworks have been announced after ongoing roadworks and traffic issues.

Four-way traffic lights will be installed on the A346 Salisbury Road in Marlborough for a period of eight weeks, while new pathways and a toucan crossing are installed.

The aim of the roadworks is to improve walking and cycling facilities and create a 'traffic-free route' from the east to the west of the town.

But many in Marlborough have pushed back against the news, stating that existing roadworks are already making it 'impossible to drive through town'.

"Marlborough is rapidly becoming a 'no go' zone for all those who live in nearby villages," said Andrew Mallinson, taking to social media.

"It's such a shame and will have a massive impact on Marlborough businesses."

Others added: "I've never known anywhere like it for roadworks - it's ridiculous."

Sian Miles, who runs a dog care business in Marlborough, has asked whether local businesses can claim compensation because of the roadworks, which will make it harder for her to work.

"With the last traffic lights on Salisbury Road it added an additional three hours to our day," she said.

Within the next two weeks (from August 27 to September 10), road management site One Network shows that six roads or pathways will be affected by roadworks in Marlborough, with some works taking place on the same day as each other.
