Drone footage has given a glimpse inside the construction site as crews begin to repair a collapsed Wiltshire road.

Preliminary works to repair the B4069 Lyneham Banks were started by Wiltshire Council’s contractor Octavius Infrastructure on Monday, July 8.

Between now and spring 2025 the firm will play a significant role in reinstating a 140-metre section of the carriageway, after around 90 metres buckled during a major landslip in 2022.

Footage taken by WonderGroundImages at the end of July has provided an insight into the ongoing works.

It shows heavy machinery working at the scene around the collapsed carriageway and a construction site set up on the stable parts of the road.

Preliminary works began with vegetation clearance.

During the full construction phase of the scheme, Octavius plans to excavate where the road has collapsed and reinstate the carriageway via several steps.

To the north and south of the road, slipped land will be regraded and drainage will be installed to prevent further incidents.

The route is an important one for the county, and for businesses in the area, and saw around 5,500 vehicles a day before it was dislodged.

Since its collapse, the road has been closed off and there remains no public access to the site during construction.
