An “incongruous afterthought” of a village shop just outside Calne could see it demolished and replaced.
The proposal, submitted by Calibre Homes, suggests the demolition of Spar and adjoining building on Church Road in Derry Hill and proposes that two homes be constructed in its place, along with a new village shop of a “more modern” design.
The new shop would have a similar floorspace to the previous one and would offer the same services and products.

It will also provide a post office, an element that was pointed out as important by residents during the community drop-in session on Tuesday, July 23.
Calibre Homes has indicated that the two dwellings proposed beside the shop would have their own vehicle entrance.
The application states: “This will create a sense of belonging for all new buildings and help the village shop generate its own important character within the site, rather than the current appearance which is as an incongruous afterthought bolt-on to a dwelling, looking inappropriate and out of place along the current street scene.”
Wiltshire Council is expected to make its decision by Monday, November 11.
