Restrictions planned on a residential road often used for its free parking have now been implemented.
As previously reported Kennet Place roadside in Marlborough has been a popular parking spot for those wanting to avoid the cost of the nearby Kennet Place pay and display car park.
Wiltshire Council has now moved forward with plans to remove ‘no waiting’ signs and make sections of the road ‘resident permit-holders only’.
The road, which sits on the edge of the River Kennet, became victim to unprecedented flooding on January 5, 2023, which left residents on the street being carried out of their homes on rafts.

Residents like Val had been requesting that parking restrictions on the road be changed for several years.
Speaking previously, Val said: "It's something I have personally been requesting and often campaigning about over the last 28 years," said Val.
"We really need people to not keep parking on our road right now because it's only a small road and we need the space for the people helping repair our homes to get their vans and equipment in."
The proposal to add parking restrictions onto the road was also supported by Marlborough Town Council in January 2024 and following a public consultation, restrictions have now been implemented.
As of August 19, the 'no waiting at any time' signs have been removed from Kennet Place.
From now on, the roadside parking will be restricted to 'resident permit holders only' or 'two hours with two hours no return' from Monday to Sunday, 8am to 6pm.
'No return' means that a member of the public will not be allowed to cheat the system by parking their car on Kennet Place for the allotted two hours and then driving around the block and park it back in the same place.
These restrictions will be in place on the following stretches of road:
- Kennet Place – north side – from a point 6 metres east of the centre of the access to Kennet Mews for a distance of 19 metres in an easterly direction
- Kennet Place – south side – from a point 5 metres east of its junction with Town Mill for a distance of 20 metres in an easterly direction
