A controversial proposal for a housing development in Malmesbury is set to be determined after it faced a “high level of public opposition”.

The development would see 23 new homes built on a field south west of Park Road, an area which the applicant, Cotswold Homes, has described as “largely overgrown”.

Cllr Gavin Grant, has called the application to committee to consider issues such as the visual impact upon the surrounding area, the relationship to adjoining properties, the environmental impact, and the “high level of public opposition”.

Letters from the general public were received, raising concerns that included flood risks, a lack of privacy and insufficient facilities.

Malmesbury Town Council also objected to the application, noting: “We continue to have concerns over drainage and flood provision on this site.”

This comes days after the Town Council also asked Wiltshire Council to reject nearby plans by Lagan Homes and White Lion Land Limited to build 42 homes, also on land off Park Road, as well as Hollins Strategic Land’s plans for 55 homes beside Sherston Road.

The committee will make a decision regarding the Cotswold Homes proposal at the northern area planning committee meeting on Wednesday, August 21, and the case officer has recommended it be approved.
