Multiple bikes have been stolen in a spate of thefts across Wiltshire.

Police have received numerous reports of bike thefts in Chippenham, Corsham and Calne this summer.

In July two bikes were stolen from outside Chippenham Sainsbury’s stores.

On July 14 a blue Apollo Phaze 17-inch frame was allegedly taken from outside the Bath Road branch, while another bike was reported stolen from the Station Hill shop on July 19.

Between June 28 and 29, a bike worth £455 is believed to have been taken from the rear of Howdens Joinery in Vincients Road.

Officers have been investigating these incidents, as well as similar offences in Calne and Corsham.

Sgt Michael Tripp said: “Our neighbourhood teams have been conducting enquiries in relation to these incidents, but often the bikes have been left in areas with no CCTV, or haven’t been left fully secure.

“We’d urge owners to be mindful of where they are leaving their bikes and the types of locks being used. It can be really upsetting to have your bike stolen – especially if that is your main mode of transport. Please consider the following advice.”

Tips for preventing bike theft include double locking, securing the frame and both wheels to a stand, taking removable parts, parking near CCTV or well-lit areas, and registering and marking the bike.
