New pictures have shown the progress being made on a project to “transform” the skyline of a Wiltshire town.
The National Grid project to remove 13 electricity pylons from the North Wessex Downs National Landscape, near Devizes, began in January of this year.
By 2026, these pylons are scheduled to be replaced by underground cables, which will run from Roundway Hill and Covet to the Bridge Inn on Horton Road.
Project manager Amardeep Malhi previously said the landscape would be greatly enhanced by “removing this blot”.
In June, the scheme was still in its “enabling” works stage, but construction has ramped up in subsequent months.

Balfour Beatty, the contractor carrying out the work, has since shared an update on how the project is shaping up in August.
The company’s contractors have been in the process of laying ducts for the 400kV underground cables that will eventually replace the current overhead lines.
A spokesperson for the firm said: “Progress at the North Wessex Downs VIP Project for National Grid.
“This project is crucial for preserving the scenic Devizes landscape while enabling new Net Zero infrastructure.
“It’s inspiring to be part of a project that harmonises environmental preservation with technological progress.”
