Pupils around Wiltshire have been celebrating after learning their fate on A-Level results day.

Teenagers gathered at schools around the county to receive their results and many have achieved excellent results that will see them take the next step in their future.

At Sheldon School in Chippenham, 73 per cent of students achieved grades A* to C, including 51 per cent A* to B grades.

This included some high achievers like Olivia Roberts who was awarded A*, A*, A*.

Elsewhere in the town, Abbeyfield head Nick Norgrove said staff were “extremely proud” of this crop of year 13s.

He added: “We are extremely proud of all of the young people receiving their results today at Abbeyfield School.

“It is pleasing to see that all of the hard work they have put in over the past couple of years has really paid off for them.”

There were similar sentiments at Hardenhuish School.

Headteacher Lisa Percy said: “Our amazing Year 13 are a credit to themselves, their parents and our staff.

“I am proud of each and every one of them and am confident that the results of these wonderful young people along with their amazing positivity will lead them on to ever greater achievements in the future.”

There was also reason for celebration at Devizes School where Ronan Bethel Moore, Abigail Smart, Keir Fricker, Evie Skinner achieved two or more A*s.

Headteacher David Cooper said he was “incredibly impressed” by the results and paid tribute to the year’s “great attitude and work ethic.”

In Marlborough, almost a third of the grades achieved by St John’s pupils were A* to A, with over 80 per cent of students achieving A* to C grades.

Principal Alan Henderson said: “We are extremely proud of all our wonderful Year 13 students who have achieved some amazing results today.”

The John of Gaunt School in Trowbridge also saw 80 per cent of grades at A* to C.

Special recognition went to Jessica Blackburn who obtained four A*s and is headed to Warwick University.

Mrs Blackburn, Jess' mum, said: “John of Gaunt has always been a supportive school with good leadership and putting the welfare of students first. My children have excelled at the school.”

There was also a large number of high grades at Kingdown School in Warminster where many students are now set to head to universities around the country.

Head Helen Carpenter added: “There have been some tears and squeals of joy today as envelopes were opened, not least from our supportive parents.

“This year group have worked to overcome the deficits of lockdown and we have seen a higher number of A* to C grades at A-Level as a result.”

In Calne, Kingsbury Green Academy celebrated its best ever results at A-Level, with 25 per cent of grades at A*, A, and Distinction.

Departing principal Jason Tudor said: “These results are the final A level results of my tenure as KGA Principal and I couldn’t have wished for a better way to bow out.”

Matt Kingscote, Head of the Corsham School Sixth Form, was also full of praise for his pupils.

He added: “Their sixth form journey has seen them blossom, and we are justifiably proud of the resilience and determination they have shown in earning some fantastic grades.”

At Malmesbury School, headteacher Brett Jouny said his sixth form students had obtained “excellent results”, with many accepted onto their first-choice university courses.

In Bradford on Avon 100 per cent of students achieved a pass at A Level and 83 per cent achieved entirely A* to C grades, with an average grade of B.

Headteacher Tim Farrer labelled the achievements of this cohort “remarkable.”

Finally,  St Augustine’s in Trowbridge saw 80 per cent of students secure their first choice university placements including Elijah, who will be studying computer science at the University of Oxford.
