Wiltshire has an abundance of incredible walks that promise to transport you away from the foibles of life for an afternoon.
But surely you'd agree that if your dog can't come, then what is the point?
Luckily, Wiltshire caters for all, especially our four-legged furry friends. But what route is best?
It can be tricky to find a dog-friendly route as lots of other walkers out there will be pup-less, but no matter, we have plenty of suitable options.

1 Stonehenge and Visitor Centre Trail
This is an out-and-back route that takes you from the Stonehenge Visitor Centre to the iconic standing stone ring of Stonehenge. To get closer to the site, you will have to pay for entrance to the attraction.
This area can be very busy in peak seasons. Make sure to check out the interesting informational signage that tells you a bit about the local history and environment.
2 Broad Chalke and Fifield Downs Circular
This peaceful journey explores the rolling chalk downs within the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), with plenty of nature and glorious views along the way. The final stretch takes you alongside the River Ebble, a beautiful chalk stream still used for growing watercress.
The trail starts from the car park along the Causeway and passes outside the United Reformed Church chapel, which today houses the community shop and post office. You’ll head north through the village.
3 Colerne and Thickwood Circular
This is a great walk through the rolling hills of the countryside around Colerne, with lovely scenery throughout. The area offers plenty of opportunities to extend the walk or change it if desired. The path can get a little muddy at times, so come prepared with the appropriate footwear.
4 Shear Water Tarmac Path Loop
An easy-going route which is suitable to most abilities, so a wonderful opportunity to get outdoors. Great for all the family and for your pooches too as they can be off the lead and safely roam free. Pushchair, wheelchair and stroller-friendly. Great in the autumn with the changing colours of the leaves. It can get a little busy. Tea hut and car park (fee of £1 through honesty box) both at the start. Enjoy!
5 Morgan's Hill and Calstone Downs
This is a pleasant circular trail from Morgan's Hill Nature Reserve near Calne in Wiltshire and offers the seemingly endless rolling fields and pastures, with beautiful views of the Lansdowne Monument, visiting a pretty village church and the flower-rich Calstone Downs along the way. It is a peaceful route with typical countryside surroundings as well as a number of historic sites along the way.

6 Ramsbury - Love's Copse - Manor
Set in the beautiful countryside with street parking available in the village. Head North out of the village to head onto the countryside with nice views across the valley mid-way. You head back in next to the grounds of Ramsbury Manor. A drink and meal can be taken at The Bell. Toilet facilities are available via memorial hall.
7 Heart of Savernake Forest Circular
This is a picturesque woodland trail through the heart of Savernake Forest in the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Home to some of England’s oldest trees, Savernake Forest is a historic park and a Site of Special Scientific Interest located just outside of Marlborough.
8 Colerne and Husseyhill Circular
Setting off in Colerne, this is a lovely countryside walk, spanning nearly 6 miles. This route is generally considered easygoing but be aware that there are steep hills along the way and is can get a little muddy, so appropriate footwear is recommended. Geese have been spotted on this trail so please keep that in mind if you're planning to take your dog along for the adventure!
9 Wilcot Estate and Canal Circular
This is a circular route from the village of Wilcot in Wiltshire. The trail leads you through the pretty village, with lots of thatched cottages and a beautiful church and manor house, before heading out through the countryside with views of the withy bed. The return leg follows the towpath along a rural stretch of the Kennet and Avon Canal, with lots of wildlife to enjoy.
10 West Woods Circular
Enjoy beautiful scenery and winding woodland paths as you make your way through West Woods.
Famous for its bluebells in April and May, here you can take your time admiring the flowers and spotting some wildlife. T
he paths become very muddy in wetter conditions so care is needed and appropriate footwear is required.
