A business has been fined £1,600 for multiple offences after fly-tipping on a major A-road through Wiltshire.
Wiltshire Council issued a fixed penalty notice to a Southampton-based business for dumping rubbish on the A303 westbound layby near Chicklade Bottom, just a few miles from Warminster.
The firm was hit with the fine, which is fixed at £1,000, after admitting to leaving the waste.
Two separate £300 fines were also handed out for failing to produce a waste carrier licence and waste transfer notes, bringing the total payment to £1,600.
Nick Holder, cabinet member for highways and street scene, said: “These fines highlight our continued efforts to tackling fly-tipping in Wiltshire and we’re determined to further reduce this environmental crime.
“Our business plan objectives outline our zero-tolerance approach, and we will continue to spread this clear message that if you fly-tip you will be caught and prosecuted.
“Always check the waste carrier licence, get a receipt, and note the registration, make and model of the vehicle being used to take the rubbish away.
“Everybody is responsible for their own waste, and we urge residents and businesses to responsibly dispose of it – or we will take action.”
