A car has been taped off at an M4 junction in Wiltshire after police stopped and arrested an alleged vehicle thief.
Police stopped the driver of an Audi A1 at around on the morning of Monday, August 12, at the M4 junction 17, north of Chippenham.
The stop took place on the A350 approaching the roundabout from Chippenham, following reports of a vehicle being stolen in the Avon and Somerset Police area.
Wiltshire Police’s Road Policing Unit was deployed to the scene and arrested the driver, following intelligence that they had also allegedly committed a theft from a shop in the county.
Shortly before midday on Monday, a car remained at the junction covered in police tape, after officers had left the scene.
A spokesperson for the force said: “The Audi A1 you see in the distance was reported stolen in Avon and Somerset Police force area at 8am today.
“The driver made the wrong choice of driving through Wiltshire and had the cheek to commit a shop theft whilst here.
“Road Policing Units deployed and now have one on the way to custody.”
