A 40-year-old man from Wiltshire has admitted to making thousands of indecent images of children and distributing some of them on social media.

Jason Chan, of Bryant Close in Chippenham, appeared in the dock at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Monday, August 5.

He pleaded guilty to making 2,133 indecent photographs of children between June 21, 2012, and August 17, 2022. Of these, 1,779 were classed as Category C, 216 fell into Category B, and 138 were of such graphic material that they were classed as Category A.

From his home address, the defendant distributed three Category C images between August 2 and 11, 2022, and distributed two Category B images between August 11 and 15, 2022.

Keith Ballinger, prosecuting, explained that an investigation launched by Avon and Somerset Police into the uploading of child abuse images onto X linked Chan to these offences at first, then Wiltshire Police followed this line of enquiry when the defendant moved to Chippenham.

Wiltshire officers attended Chan's home address, arrested him, and seized several electronic devices that had indecent images of children stored on them.

The devices showed that some of these images had been shared via Twitter. He admitted to the charges during a police interview.

He has been released on unconditional bail until his sentencing at Swindon Crown Court on September 20.
