A pair of dairy farmers from Wiltshire have proved they're the best of the best as England and Wales winners of the M&S Farm Awards.

Nick and Lucy Tyler, from north Wiltshire, run a mixed farming business that was first established by Nick's grandfather in 1934, and now comprises of a dairy herd, Wagyu-cross beef cows and crops.

The farming couple were selected to represent their region in the annual M&S Select Farm awards and have now been announced as England and Wales winners in the 'Only at M&S' category.

“We feel very proud and privileged to have won this award," said Nick.

"The pool is unique and we work together with industry experts to figure out what is best for our cows and the environment, and everyone is completely engaged.

"My late father, who was an admirer of M&S, would be over the moon.”

“We have a huge responsibility as farmers to look after the land we farm well, especially as our actions have such a great impact," Nick added.

"We need to meet our farming needs, but also make sure we don’t compromise the ability of future generations to meet theirs.

"We don’t want to pass on land that has been ruined by poor farming practices.”

The Tyler family farm in Wiltshire is in both mid and higher-tier stewardship scheme agreements and has applied for an extensive Sustainable Farming Incentive agreement.

This is in addition to being a LEAF Marque farm, a leading environmental assurance system recognising more sustainably farmed products, and both the dairy and beef are RSPCA Assured.

Nick and Lucy were invited to receive their award at the M&S ceremony at this year's Royal Welsh Show, where judges highlighted their dedication to maintaining high standards while making commitments to become more sustainable.

"Every day, our Select Farmers go to extraordinary lengths to deliver great quality M&S food to our customers, producing lower carbon, responsible food, while protecting natural resources and driving innovation," said Steve McLean, Head of Agriculture and Fisheries at M&S.

"From its inception, the M&S milk pool has symbolised innovation and sustainability within the dairy industry, and it’s testimony to the hard work of its members.

"Nick and Lucy are no exception. They are valued members of the pool, supplying milk of the highest standard and helping us to remain the only national UK retailer to sell 100 per cent RSPCA Assured milk.”
