A key A-road into a Wiltshire town is set to be hit by overnight closures for nearly two weeks.

The A4 Bath Road, a busy route used by those travelling in and out of Chippenham town centre, will be hit by roadworks between the entrance to B&Q and the road’s junction with Rowden Hill and Brunel Court.

During the works, this stretch of road will be closed between 8pm and 7.15am each night from Monday, August 5, until Saturday, August 17.

The project is being undertaken by Scottish and Southern Power Distribution and will include the installation of around 130 metres of ducting, a new HV cable, and other associated works.

Wiltshire Council has warned that delays in the area are likely during these nighttime closures and motorists have been advised to divert via the A350 and the A420 to get in and out of town.

Drivers should, however, have unrestricted access to an alternative route into Chippenham, via the B-roads through Patterdown and Showell, during these closures.

Roadworks, including temporary traffic lights, are due to end on this road on Friday, August 2, after the route was shut for nearly seven months earlier this year.
