Improvement works are set to kick off again at a busy roundabout branded “horrendous” by drivers.
In April residents and motorists said that the state of the road surface at The Pheasant Roundabout, on the A4 Bath Road into Chippenham, had become an issue.
Temporary traffic lights will be installed this August while work associated with upgrading the crossing at the junction and some resurfacing is carried out.
The council warned it is likely this resurfacing work will need to be completed during a separate closure.
The pothole-ridden approach to the roundabout, a key junction for those heading in and out of Chippenham on the A4, has been widely criticised by those who use it.
John Wright, who lives nearby in Cepen Park South, said: “I would describe the road as horrendous.

“They’ve resurfaced from the Cepen Park South Roundabout but left it short of The Pheasant Roundabout.
“As you approach the roundabout there’s a strip of around 10 or 15 feet that is all covered in potholes.
“All round the roundabout needs to be done as well, it’s been like this for a long time, and we just keep getting the same reply.”
Speaking on Facebook, other drivers branded the section of road “dreadful” and “dangerous.”
Improvement works at the roundabout initially began well over a year ago and will include upgrading the crossing.
They are being carried out by the developers of the Hunters Moon development after they struck an agreement with Wiltshire Council to complete the project.
The scheme has been hit by lengthy delays and fencing remained on the pavement of the junction for over 12 months while the work stalled.
This was removed earlier this year as work started up again and the council has now confirmed the next significant phase of the project will take place in August.
Council leader, Cllr Richard Clewer said: “The works programmed at the A4 Pheasant Roundabout (Bath Road) to take place between August 19 and August 24 related to temporary traffic signals and are to allow ducting works linked to the provision of new toucan crossings on the Bath Road (West) and Hungerdown Lane approaches.
“These ducts are needed to take the traffic signal cabling.
“There is resurfacing work also planned on the immediate approaches to the roundabout on all four arms.
“We aim to do this whilst the traffic control is in place, but it is likely some resurfacing work will need to be completed under a later separate closure.”
