A car park in Wiltshire is set for a complete makeover to improve the uneven ground and accessibility.
Wootton Bassett Memorial Hall car park, just off Tanners Close, has been in a state of disrepair for several months with uneven ground and faded markings making it difficult for those with mobility issues or with pushchairs to use the site.
But now the car park is set to close for six days while major improvement works are carried out.
This comes after Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council received a grant from landfill operators Crapper and Sons Ltd as part of the Landfill Community First Fund.
The LCF offers capital funding for local community, heritage and environmental projects in specific areas where local landfill operators' sites or depots are located.
“Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council and the Trustees of the Wootton Bassett Memorial Hall are very grateful to have received this grant,” said a spokesperson for the council.
“Improving the car parking and disabled parking will be beneficial to the hall users and parents with pushchairs allowing them to navigate the car park more easily and safely.
“As well as the uneven ground being repaired, new car park white line markings will be added with two new disabled bays and loading bays marked out for easier access to the hall.”
This is not the first generous grant that landfill company Crapper and Sons has donated to help maintain Royal Wootton Bassett.
The company regularly offers grants through the LCF, such as the £50,000 grant during the Covid-19 pandemic which was responsible for keeping Bassett's sports facilities in top shape.
Preparation work for improvements at the Memorial Hall car park is due to begin at the car park on Friday, August 2, as long as the weather stays dry.
To avoid any disruption while works are being carried out, the car park and the memorial hall will be closed to the public from Monday, August 5, until Saturday, August 10.
Improvement works are expected to continue in the weeks following the reopening of the car park, but these are unlikely to have a big effect on car park users.
