A popular bistro that opened in April this year has now announced it will 'temporarily close' with almost immediate effect just three months later.
Quercus Bistro, attached to the RWB Auctions house on Royal Wootton Bassett's High Street, first opened to the public on April 18 and has proven popular among the locals time and time again.
The bistro, open Wednesday to Sunday, is regularly fully booked for its evening meals at the restaurant and wine bar, and has also acted as a popular day-time coffee stop for several months.
But on July 25, Quercus Bistro confirmed that it would be closing temporarily with immediate effect.
Currently, no reason has been given for the closure and it is unclear when the bistro is intended to reopen.
"It is with deep regret that the owners of Quercus have had to make the difficult decision to temporarily close the bistro," said a spokesperson for Quercus Bistro.
"It was our hope that we could operate until close of business Saturday evening however it became apparent this would not be possible.
"Since Quercus opened earlier this year, we've enjoyed sharing our take on seasonal, French-inspired cuisine and carefully chosen wines with Royal Wootton Bassett locals and visitors from further afield.
"We are as disappointed as you are about our closure and look forward to welcoming you back soon.
"We are extremely proud of what we've created in the town and are committed to its re-opening as quickly as possible."
Since April, the bistro has been overseen by hospitality operations manager Steve Newton, and it was awarded its first five-star hygiene rating in May 2024.
Steve is no stranger to the hospitality business, having picked up his own AA Rosettes which are awarded for culinary excellence amongst the finest restaurants in the UK.
“We're not just an auction house," said Steve at the opening of the bistro.
“It is a place where people can spend some quality time here, they could even spend a whole day here.
"In Royal Wootton Bassett we are at the centre of a network of local farms, offering ethically reared meat and sustainable produce."
RWB Auctions owner Jon White added: "The support from locals and other businesses has been fantastic."
Quercus Bistro has stated it is unable to give further information at this stage about the reason for closing or how long the closure will last.
