Fears of a man carrying a weapon through a Wiltshire town prompted a police response.

Multiple witnesses called the police and claimed to have seen a man with what looked like a firearm on Wood Lane in Chippenham at around 9.20pm on Thursday, July 18.

When officers arrived, they found that the weapon was not real, and arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm.

The suspect has since been released on bail.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "We are appealing for witnesses following an incident involving an imitation firearm in Chippenham.
