Jaw-dropping images have shown a warplane zooming through the skies towards the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford.

Hundreds of aircraft have been arriving at the airfield near Swindon ahead of this year’s event, which is expected to draw crowds of over 150,000 to the area.

One of nearly 200 attractions on display will be the Royal Canadian Air Force’s CF-18 Hornet.

The impressive warplane displayed its agility while travelling to RAF Fairford when it was spotted zooming through Wales’s ‘Mach Loop’ on Wednesday, July 17.

The loop is a series of valleys in west-central Wales which are often used as low-level training areas for fast aircraft.

The loop is among just a handful of places in the world where photographers and plane spotters can see combat aircraft flying below them.

Captain Caleb ‘Tango’ Robert was the pilot showing off his skills on this occasion.

He serves as a combat-qualified element lead on the CF-18 (Alouettes) Tactical Fighter Squadron at 3 Wing in Quebec.

RIAT 2024 kicks off on Friday, July 19, but an array of planes, helicopters and jets have been making their way to the airfield since Wednesday.
