A tennis club in Wiltshire has unveiled its new £275k clubhouse made almost entirely out of donations.

With the 2024 Wimbledon tournament having drawn to a close, thousands of young tennis players across the country will be feeling inspired to pick up the racket and become the next Wimbledon stars.

Marlborough Tennis Club, located on Port Hill, is encouraging players to do exactly that with the creation of a new two-storey clubhouse.

The £275,000 clubhouse was unveiled to the public for the first time during the grand opening event on Saturday, July 13, and Marlborough Tennis Club Chairman Andrew Payne could not have been more thrilled.

"We celebrated the official opening of our new clubhouse in style. It has been a great day all around," said a spokesperson for the club.

In total, the club raised a whopping £275,000 for this project, which was made up of donations from the local community, Marlborough Town Council, Wiltshire Council and the Landfill Communities Fund.

This marks a significant step up from the original converted portacabin that the club has been using since it moved to Port Hill in 2018.

The grand opening day included tournaments for junior members, a vintage tennis event and an exhibition match featuring the title-winning Wiltshire men’s team.
