A Wiltshire town is set to welcome a new young dignitary into the council chambers as the first-ever Mayoral Scout.

Reuben Davies, a Scout in Marlborough, will take on the newly made role of Mayoral Scout and he was formally introduced to the Town Council by current Mayor Kym-Marie Cleasby on Monday, June 24.

The concept of a Mayoral Scout has never been seen before in Marlborough, a town which already has important community positions including Town Crier and Beadle, and the new role will include accompanying the Mayor at civic events.

But Reuben will have a busy year ahead of him, as he will also be working towards his Scout's Challenge badge as well as taking up an academic scholarship at Marlborough College.

The Marlborough schoolboy is a keen musician and pianist as well as an excellent sportsman, with triathlon being his main event.

Due to his studies, Marlborough Town Council has confirmed that Reuben will not take on the role for a full year, like most Town Council roles, and will instead help launch the role for the next few months before passing it on to someone new.

"The Mayor is keen to involve young people of the town and she is looking forward to involving Reuben over the next couple of months and to meeting his successor," said a spokesperson for Marlborough Town Council.
